Barcelona Drama Unveiled: Messi and Lewandowski’s Revealed Conflict

A year ago, Argentina clinched the World Cup in Qatar, a triumph etched with memorable moments, including a public display of tension between Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski during the Argentina-Poland match. Messi notably refused to shake hands with the Polish player during the game, raising questions about a potential conflict.

Fast forward a year, and Angel Di Maria, in the documentary “Champions, One Year After,” aired on Star +, confirms that the tension between the two players was indeed palpable. “Even my grandmother noticed that Messi was deliberately facing off against Lewandowski. It’s something he does sometimes; it stays with him. When we talk about him, he throws it at you either in an interview or on the field. That’s how he expresses himself. I think it’s normal.

Some people sometimes don’t respect him and don’t realize he’s the greatest player in history. You shouldn’t say anything to him because he ends up getting angry, and it’s worse,” Di Maria revealed.

According to Mundo Deportivo, revisiting the issue, the tension between Messi and Lewandowski might trace back to the 2021 Ballon d’Or. Messi claimed the prestigious award, a year after Lewandowski was denied due to a Covid-interrupted season. The Ballon d’Or victory potentially becoming a source of rivalry between the two football icons.
