Barcelona set to appoint Thiago Motta as Xavi’s successor

Former PSG star in pole position to take over at Catalan giants.

There’s a change in the air at Barcelona, with rumors swirling of a potential managerial change. According to La Cadena Ser, Joan Laporta, the club’s president, has identified Thiago Motta, the current manager of Bologna, as his top choice to take over the reins of the Catalan side if Xavi were to depart.

Motta, a former Barcelona player, would bring a deep understanding of the club and its distinctive playing style. His experience as a manager at Bologna has allowed him to develop a vision for the game, further strengthening his candidacy for the position. Bologna is currently seventh in Serie A with 32 points after 20 matches played.

Motta’s playing style at Bologna, which is focused on possession and attacking creativity, closely aligns with Barcelona’s iconic philosophy. If Xavi were to leave his current position, Motta could be the ideal person to succeed the club’s icon.

The appointment of Motta could allow for a smooth transition, avoiding any potential upheaval that could come from the departure of such an iconic figure as Xavi. Continuity in the club’s playing style and philosophy could be preserved, ensuring the necessary stability.

The Catalan club is currently third in La Liga. Under Xavi’s leadership, Barça has not been convincing this season, sitting seven points behind Real Madrid and eight points behind Girona. In addition to the disappointment in the league, the club lost the Spanish Super Cup to Real in the final by a heavy score of 4-1.
