Phew, that was a tight one! But Barca boss Xavi says Gundogan’s just got a sore back

Barca boss Xavi took a deep breath and reassured everyone that Ilkay Gundogan’s alright after coming off during Saturday’s win against Alaves. Apparently, it’s just a “knock on his back”, nothing serious. Phew!

The Catalans were already missing a whopping eight players, so any more injuries would have been a nightmare. Thankfully, Inigo Martinez made a welcome return from injury, giving the team a much-needed boost.

Speaking of scares, there were some worried glances when Gundogan left the pitch in the 59th minute, but Xavi quickly downplayed it. He also mentioned replacing Pedri because he was knackered, and brought in Ferran Lopez for some fresh legs.

Remember that 3-1 win? Well, Gundogan actually got on the scoresheet himself after Lewandowski opened things up. Alaves pulled one back, but Vitor Roque restored the two-goal lead before getting himself sent off (bit of a rollercoaster, that game!).

“No injuries today,” Xavi told reporters, putting everyone at ease. “Gundogan just got a knock, no big deal.” He even threw in that Joao Cancelo’s early sub was just a precaution too.

Xavi also had some praise for Andreas Christensen, who filled in admirably in an unfamiliar midfield role. “He brings discipline and his technical skills are perfect for that spot,” said the manager. Apparently, Christensen even told Xavi he’s comfortable there, so that’s a new option in the toolbox!

And let’s not forget the win itself. It puts Barca third in La Liga, although they’re still seven points behind Real Madrid (who play their game in hand tonight). But hey, two wins in a row after some tough decisions? The team’s looking good, fighting hard, and playing well both with and without the ball. That’s the kind of performance that boosts morale, and Xavi’s definitely happy with it.

So, there you have it. A bit of a scare with Gundogan, but nothing serious. Barca’s on the up, and Xavi’s got a new tactical option in his pocket. All good news for the Blaugrana faithful!
