Olivier Giroud: Milan future uncertain despite impressive season

French striker Olivier Giroud is having another excellent season with AC Milan. Despite this, his future in Serie A is very uncertain.

Giroud put in another masterclass performance against Frosinone on Saturday, and the Italian press was once again full of praise for the 2018 World Cup winner.

Giroud’s contract with Milan expires at the end of the season, and he has not yet agreed to an extension. According to Tuttosport, the Milanese management are not in a hurry to keep him.

The Italian sports daily reveals that while the AC Milan board has already decided to take up the purchase option for Luka Jovic, on loan from Fiorentina, nothing has been definitively decided regarding Olivier Giroud.

“What is still not certain is the future of Giroud, who is also at the end of his contract. The Frenchman scores a lot, but he will be 38 at the end of September. If Giroud was open to a renewal, the alternative is to say goodbye to top-level football and fly to the United States championship, Milan would not refuse it,” explains Federico Masini, Italian journalist.

Milan are hesitant to keep a player who is getting older, even though he seems to be defying his age. This is obviously what is making the Italian club doubt.

If Milan do not offer him a new contract, Giroud could have several options. He could stay in Europe and join another club, or he could move to the United States and play in Major League Soccer.
