Almería vs Sevilla preview: Almería set for relegation, Sevilla eyeing mid-table finish

Almería are waving the white flag on their second season in the top flight after failing to win a single game so far this season (9D, 18L).

They are 15 points from safety and no team has ever started a La Liga campaign with 27 winless matches, so any thoughts of escaping what looks like inevitable relegation would be surely foolish.

The hosts have at least managed to score in just over half of their home league games (54%), but the fact they have failed to win on seven occasions in any competition when opening the scoring in the league (2D, 5L) suggests they cannot be trusted even when they get off to a good start.

Sevilla, who were also flirting with relegation at the start of the season, have found some good form in the last six weeks (3W, 2D, 1L) to move clear of the drop zone.

That run was capped by an impressive 3-2 win over a Real Sociedad side that were in the Champions League until this week, so facing the bottom side in the league should be seen as an ideal opportunity to continue that momentum.

Sevilla’s away form is a concern, having won just two away games in La Liga this season, and they have failed to score a goal away from home in normal time for 225 minutes.

However, the fact they have not failed to score in this fixture away from home since 2007 (6W, 1L) should give them confidence that they can break that duck.

Players to watch: Luka Romero, who has only made four appearances for Almería, has been a spark in the dark for his club, scoring his first two goals for them in the recent 2-2 draw with Atlético.

For Sevilla, Youssef En-Nesyri has scored his only two goals in the last four games in all competitions away from home, one either side of half-time – he also opened the scoring in the 5-1 win in the reverse fixture.

Hot stat: Sevilla have one of the worst win rates in La Liga as pre-match favorites, with just 29% (4W, 5D, 5L).
