Fabio Cannavaro takes over as Udinese coach, with Pinzi and Brother Paolo in tow

Udinese has officially appointed Fabio Cannavaro as their new head coach, tasked with guiding the team to Serie A safety.

Cannavaro, a former World Cup winner and Ballon d’Or recipient, joins Udinese with a wealth of experience as both a player and a manager. He has previously coached in China and Saudi Arabia.

“Fabio Cannavaro is the new Bianconero coach,” announced the club in a statement. “Udinese Calcio is delighted to welcome the 2006 World Cup champion and Ballon d’Or winner, who will lead the team until the end of the season. He has signed a contract until June 30, 2024.”

Cannavaro will be joined by his brother Paolo as assistant coach and Francesco Troise as technical collaborator. Additionally, Udinese legend Giampiero Pinzi returns to the club as a member of the technical staff.

“We are thrilled to welcome back a Bianconero legend like Giampiero Pinzi,” the club said. “After the glorious pages of our history written as a player, he returns to the Bianconero technical staff, where he was already a part from 2019 to 2022. Pinzi returns to bring all his experience and skills, as well as his love for our colors.”

The new coaching staff will lead their first training session this afternoon at 3:00 PM. Cannavaro’s official presentation will take place tomorrow, April 23, at 1:00 PM in the press room of the Bluenergy Stadium.

“Welcome, Mister, and welcome back, Giampi!”
