Mark van Bommel in the Running for Milan’s Bench

Not only Lopetegui: among the names tossed around to succeed Pioli on Milan’s bench is the notion of Mark van Bommel, currently coaching Antwerp in Belgium and a former Rossoneri player, having graced the Devil’s squad in the 2011/12 season, clinching the Scudetto with Allegri as coach.

According to reports from the Netherlands (Van Bommel and his manager Marc Overmars’ home country), while awaiting clarity on whether the Rossoneri’s interest in him will intensify in the coming hours (per circulating news, Van Bommel is reportedly Ibrahimovic’s preferred choice), there’s already certainty regarding the coach’s departure from Antwerp and Belgium come June.

As per The Telegraaf, Van Bommel’s stint with Royal Antwerp is nearing its conclusion. His departure is mainly prompted by the financial troubles plaguing the club and its president, Paul Gheysens. Last season, in his debut campaign in the Belgian league, Van Bommel secured the Jupiler League title, and this year, he’s steered the team to the Belgian Cup final.
