Aston Villa are eyeing French defender Jules Koundé

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa and manager Unai Emery are eyeing French defender Jules Koundé, who joined Barcelona two years ago. The Spanish giants, however, are happy with their player and wouldn’t actively seek his departure. Only a substantial offer from Aston Villa could persuade them to let Koundé go.

Spanish media outlet Todofichajes reports that Barcelona could accept a transfer offer in the region of €55-60 million. Koundé himself might not be too difficult to convince. Aston Villa reportedly would offer him a better salary than his current one, and the Birmingham-based club is expected to compete in the Champions League next season.

Struggling financially, Barcelona could be tempted by a substantial offer. The sale of Frenkie De Jong or Ronald Araujo has been discussed, and Koundé is among the players with high market value who could leave Catalonia this summer. This season, the 25-year-old Frenchman has made 42 appearances across all competitions.
