Xabi Alonso goes all in for a ‘playmaker’ for his Bayer Leverkusen

Xabi Alonso goes all in for a 'playmaker' for his Bayer Leverkusen

After a historic season, Bayer Leverkusen wants to maintain its spectacular form for next season, in which they will defend their Bundesliga title and play in the Champions League. To do so, Xabi Alonso knows that he has to strengthen certain areas of the current squad.

Among them is the midfield position. In the Tolosarra’s 3-4-2-1, the midfield duo is essential to balance and give meaning to the team’s play, empowering the wing-backs and leaving freedom for the creativity of players like Wirtz. While there are names like Xhaka, Exequiel Palacios or Andrich, Xabi Alonso wants to add a more creative piece to them all.

Target Caqueret

According to Le Parisien, the German team has set its sights on Maxence Caqueret. The Olympique Lyonnais midfielder is not sure about his future in the French team and would be attracted by Bayer Leverkusen’s Champions League project.

The same media outlet points out that Lyon would be willing to sell him for an amount close to 20 million euros. At 24 years old, Caqueret has spent his entire career at the same team and since his debut has been considered one of the great talents of football in his country, being an international at all youth levels.

His 1.74m and his light physique have not been an impediment to show all his talent with the ball. Caqueret stands out especially for his technique and his vision of the game, being clearly an organizer in the center of the field, a profile that could be added to those that Xabi Alonso already has in his squad.
