A Cigar for Ancelotti, an Ovation for Kroos: Madrid Celebrates Its Heroes in an Unforgettable Party (VIDEOS)

“Hala Madrid y nada mas!”: the anthem of Real Madrid, crowned European champion for the 15th time on Saturday in London, echoes everywhere on Sunday in the streets of the Spanish capital, where thousands of supporters celebrate the return of their heroes, not satiated.

“Three weeks ago I promised you one thing: that we would come back here to celebrate. And here we are with the fifteenth!”, the emblematic German midfielder Toni Kroos, for whom the Wembley final was the last club match, told the crowd.

“How can you not love you, how can you not love you if you continue to be European champion every time”, responded in unison the thousands of people gathered on the Puerta del Sol, the famous downtown square engulfed in a sea of white jerseys.

From the middle of the afternoon, the concert of horns that had set the night on fire gradually resumed, and the designated celebration zones in the Spanish capital were taken by storm: the Almudena Cathedral, the headquarters of the Community of Madrid, the town hall and the Plaza de Cybèle, and finally the Santiago-Bernabéu stadium, which the players will join at the end of the evening.

“It seems easy to say, but… 15 times, 15 times European champions. This club never tires of winning titles!”, summarized captain Nacho at the first reception at the headquarters of the Community of Madrid, before presenting the trophy on the balcony to his fans.

Merengue president Florentino Pérez had spoken a little earlier to salute “an impressive season”, during which his team “gave everything” and showed that it was “still hungry for trophies”.

“That’s why I’ve already told you that this club is currently working on a new dream: the sixteenth European Cup,” he added. A wish shared by the Brazilian Vinicius Junior, who assured “want to win even more”.

“Yesterday was a fantastic day” declares to AFP Martiza Bonnet, a 42-year-old Chilean supporter. “Carvajal’s goal was the most incredible thing we’ve experienced at the Santiago-Bernabéu”, where nearly 70,000 people watched the match on a giant screen.

The Merengue supporters, even used to winning, are “euphoric” after this fifteenth title which came to punctuate a historic season, confides Claudia, another 23-year-old supporter.

“It’s true that we had to deal with a lot of injuries, so this victory is really very special, because the team overcame all the difficulties along the way by demonstrating its superiority”, says the student.

Already turned towards the future, like most of the socios of the “Casa Blanca”, she now awaits the announced arrival of French football star Kylian Mbappé, “a different player, born to play in Madrid” and who could lead Real towards a new era of European domination.
