After Controversy, Rodrygo Assures He Wants to Stay at Real Madrid

In the week leading up to the Champions League final, a statement by Real Madrid’s Brazilian striker Rodrygo suggested that the player could be close to leaving the Merengue club. “Anything can happen. I have a contract until 2028. The years I’ve spent here have been a pleasure,” he said.

After winning the title on Saturday in a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund, Rodrygo spoke again on the subject, clarifying the situation and guaranteeing that his greatest desire is to stay at the Madrid club for as long as possible.

“The video was cut and used to capitalize on the moment, maybe because of the Champions League. I was asked if I was going to stay in Madrid all my life and I couldn’t give any guarantees. I want to stay at this club forever, but I’m not sure that will happen. I’ve had some great times here over the years and I’ll stay at the club until the end of my contract,” he said in an interview with TNT Sports.

No Malice Intended

Rodrygo also assured that he had learned from his speech, which had a lot of repercussions, especially after the arrivals of competitors in his position like Mbappé and Endrick, which are about to happen.

“After the end of my contract, whether I stay depends on its renewal. Many people took it badly, I don’t blame anyone, not even those who were resentful. I couldn’t be wrong, we imagine that people are not malicious, but it happens. So I spoke up to clear everything up.”

“Right now, we have to be different. They’ve tried to take away from me the love and closeness I have for the club. If I can, I want to stay here all my life, until the day they don’t want me anymore. I have other things to worry about now,” concluded the striker, who has been called up for this year’s Copa América with the Brazilian national team.
