Vinicius ‘calls’ for the Ballon d’Or from Wembley

The Brazilian scored the 0-2 in the 83rd minute and once again appeared in the photo of an important match.

The world was watching Wembley, the temple of England, and Vinicius once again emerged framed in a photograph, that of the second goal. Shortly after the best Dani Carvajal ever brought Real Madrid closer to the Decimoquinta with a header, the Brazilian took advantage of a pass from Bellingham (and a gift from Maatsen) to secure a title that once again demonstrates the pedigree of the White club in Europe. As happened in 2022, Vini was back on the scoreboard after a match that was not his best.

The ‘7’ arrived at the match after two days of general discomfort, sick, but for nothing in the world did he want to miss the final. The setback was not that serious. Ancelotti started him and, although he tried to pull the cart against a daring and cheeky Borussia, he had gaps in his defensive work that almost drove his coach to despair, who gave him several touches.

He corrected him in the second half and grew as the team did. Carvajal’s goal, in the 73rd minute, knocked down the Germans, who, until that moment, had been tightening the noose for the Madridistas. And with Borussia wondering why, Vinicius gave the final stab with another goal in a match of bells.

A goal that will boost his candidacy for the next Ballon d’Or. Because if there is one footballer who is positioned in a privileged place to hold the golden ball of France Football, that is the Brazilian, who finished sixth in the last edition. In the first season without Benzema by his side and despite a wandering start after leaving the band and playing as a ‘9’, he recovered and completed one of his best years. With 24 goals and 11 assists, Vini collects dream nights in Europe.

In the first leg against Bayern he scored two goals, in the second leg he refloated his team, completing his best day in dribbling and crowning himself with the MVP. And today, in the grand final, he sentenced Borussia with a goal from a player who has managed to adapt to his new position. A step forward as a prelude to the Copa América would raise the mercury on his particular thermometer.

Ancelotti is his best salesman: “He can win it, he’s very close”. Real Madrid’s fifteenth European Cup brings him even closer to a success for the club, which has always looked at this award with greedy eyes. Alfredo Di Stéfano (1956 and 1959), Raymond Kopa (1958), Figo (2000), Ronaldo (2002), Cannavaro (2006), Cristiano Ronaldo (2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017), Modric (2018) and Benzema (2022) are the Madridistas who appear on a list to which Vini aspires.
