Madrid Bid Farewell to Mendy for 25 Million: Ancelotti Aware, Says Goodbye to His Favorite

Italian coach could face a significant loss to his tactical plans.

Carlo Ancelotti is enjoying his vacation before returning to Real Madrid City and starting the 24/25 preseason. Despite an excellent performance last season, not all is good news.

Real Madrid has many open fronts heading into this summer’s transfer market. While it is true that after Kylian Mbappé there are only two major priorities in terms of signings, the management decisions to be made regarding the squad coached by Carlo Ancelotti also include renewals.

Not all of these contract extensions have been possible. The most notable are those of Toni Kroos, Nacho and Joselu… who could be joined by a fourth player highly appreciated by the Reggiolo manager: Ferland Mendy. The French ’23’s’ performance after a forgettable 22/23 season, full of injuries and slightly discreet performances, has placed a significant dilemma in the offices of Valdebebas.

The doubts about his renewal, with the possible arrival of Alphonso Davies in the Santiago Bernabéu dressing room, have finally been dispelled: the entourage of the French defender has received the latest proposal from the Merengue directive. However, the prerogatives offered do not match the demands of Ferland Mendy himself, so his continuity beyond 2025 is becoming an increasingly unlikely scenario.

He could leave at any moment

Carlo Ancelotti is aware of the disparities between what Mendy is asking for and what Real Madrid is offering, differences that could end up with the transfer of the French defender. At Real Madrid they are consistent: in addition to applying the ‘renewal or sale’ axiom by placing Ferland Mendy on the market, they have also made it clear that they will only accept offers equal to or greater than 25 million euros.

Everything depends on Ferland Mendy himself, since the Merengue executives might not be willing to force the machine and increase his renewal figures. In the midst of these discussions is Carlo Ancelotti, who has always defended the French ’23’ and has considered him a key piece in his starting lineups since his return to the Santiago Bernabéu dugout in the summer of 2021.
